My new motto is: spend at least 1 hour every Sunday with my kids doing fun projects around the house. The goal is to instill in them my love of arts and crafts and to look at common items with fresh eyes.
Project for this week: Ethnic key Holder.
I have been browsing pinterest and pinning like crazy for the past week and this was inspired by one of the pins. Information about the original source is towards the end.
This is my modification. Note to self: remember to take pictures of each step for the next project.

Materials
- left over foam board
- cutting tool / blade
- decorative scrap fabric
- scotch tape
- stapler
- 3/4" gold color cup hooks
- 2 large command strips
- Cut foam board in 2 equal size rectangles. (Due to time constraint I just eye-balled it). You can choose the size and shape per your wall dimensions or the number of keys you plan on hanging on it. Place the rectangles over each other and tape. This gives it enough depth to support the weight of the keys on the hook.
- Lay out fabric. Iron it to give it a flat finished look ( I skipped this - hence the folds in the picture )
- Place your board over it and adjust to ensure the pattern you want is showing. Cut the fabric leaving about 2" extra all around the board.
- Fold the extra fabric over your board and tape it in place. Stretch the fabric well and staple it to the board. If doing this project with kids, take a deep breath, let go of your perfectionism and accept the uneven edges.
- Turn over to the right side, decide on the placement of your hooks and screw them in with your fingers.
- Attach to the wall using the command strips. If you use a heavier material like wood you might want to use strips with heavier weight capacity or nail it to the wall.

It was made with a circular wood backing. No way would that work for me! I mean there was only 1 hour for the entire project! BTW actual time taken (not including searching for the fabric and a wood supplement) was about 1/2 hour.
Other options for the backing are flooring samples - I was actually searching those in my garage before I remembered that they had found a new home (aka dump) months ago. I hadn't discovered pinterest at that time...
